The four best memoirs I have ever read, and I have read too many, are Frank McCort's, Angela's Ashes, “Tobias Wolff's, “This Boy's Life,” Geoffrey Wolff's, “The Duke of Deception,” and Jeanette Walls, “The Glass Castle.”. Memoirs vary greatly in how much reflection they have. Reflecting on This Boy's Life, A Memoir. I enjoy listening to audiobooks, and this one has kept me company during morning runs and short car rides. It details a childhood so shocking, at times you just have to shake your head. Some of the characteristics of memoir include: It's a true story, derived from the memory of the author (bearing in mind that memory can be faulty). I can't say for sure what it is that draws me so much to Tobias Wolff. I think of it as a quiet memoir of rebellion—and she's funny, too. I'm currently listening to an audiobook of “This Boy's Life,” the well-known memoir by Tobias Wolff. In This Boy's Life he often uses a group of characters to reveal the “I” to the reader. In '67 Whiskey', a compelling new fictional memoir by David Martinez, the author's own experiences prove that those who serve are still only human. As Tobias Wolff says in This Boy's Life (taken from Writing Life Stories):.
